Beautiful blooms

June 18, 2011

It’s been fun watching all the plants flower this spring and discovering what the previous owners planted.

We’ve had mini irises (and some we brought from our old house), peonies (which only lasted a few days due to unusually hot weather right as they were blooming), and tulips.

And now we have the summer flowers:

Columbine (which is tucked behind some daylilies). I had to turn to my friends on FaceBook to determine what it was; I’d never seen one like this before.

A bright orange lily:

And gorgeous roses!

I’d never tried my hand at roses before, so this was a new experience. I trimmed them way back about a month ago, and that seemed to do the trick as they’re blooming wonderfully right now.

The daylilies will be blooming in another week or so and the hostas will put out their flower in another month. Then we have some mums to look forward to in the fall.

We also discovered that we share a small “garden” patch with the neighbor behind us, and the hub brought in some new dirt to level it out. The kiddo wants to plant sunflowers, so we might try them there.

I do miss the giant hydrangeas we had at our old house, but I don’t know where we’d put some if we decided to plant any here.
