Bathroom Progress Update

July 1, 2011

It’s been about two weeks since we started our bathroom update.

Work has been progressing slowly because we keep running into issues (and by we, I mean the hub, who is doing 95% of the work). He had to reroute some plumbing. Then he had to rebuild a wall. And then he had to take out supports from another wall and rebuild them for the new medicine cabinets. And then he had to rerun some electrical to insure we didn’t accidentally burn the house down.

So to look at it now, it doesn’t look like much has been done in the past week. But it has.

The cement board for the tile is in place.

The updated electrical boxes are in place, too (with the proper wiring, which happened after I took this photo).

The hub has hung a lot of sheetrock to replace what we had to tear out with the old pink plastic wall tile.

Basically all the necessary sheetrock has been hung, minus the piece that will go behind the new vanity. He said he wants to wait on that until after he gets the floor in.

The inserts for the new medicine cabinets have been cut out.

Along with new light boxes for the new fixtures above the vanity.

So far, that’s been the only “design” change we’ve had to make. The original light fixtures we ordered ended up being too wide for the space, so we had to return them and order the next size down (two lights on a bar vs. three lights). The smaller size will look much better, but should still hopefully provide us with enough light.

The plumbing for the vanity has been roughed in.

We went from a single sink vanity to a double sink vanity, so this was one of the biggest changes we had to make with regards to plumbing. The width of the vanity won’t change from the old one, however, and it will be so much nicer to have two sinks!

The next phase is to install the heated flooring system and then the porcelain tile. I had really hoped the bathroom would be finished by the hub’s birthday in a week, but I really don’t think that’s going to happen. It’s looking more like August at the rate we’re going. There’s still a lot of work to be done.
