If you like to talk to tomatoes

That’s currently one of the kidlet’s favorite songs to sing. Thank goodness for Veggie Tales, they’ve gotten us through many a car trip.

We had our first tomato from the garden the other night! I was doing a little weeding in the jungle and checking over things when I noticed one perfectly ripe little red tomato hiding underneath some leaves.

I brought it inside, washed it up and diced it to have on our salads for supper. It was delicious. There is just something about sun-warmed, home-grown tomatoes that make them taste better than any other kind out there. I haven’t seen any others ripe enough to pick yet, but we are going to have a boat load when they are ripe. We also have tiny, inch-long baby cucumbers out on the vine and some squash gourds starting to form from the blossoms. Some of our garden experiments may have been failures (I’m looking at you, green beans) but we’ll more than make up for it with other produce.

Yum. I so badly want warm sun ripened tomatoes, but alas. They are all very green and show no signs of ripening any time soon.
