Where is Elfie?

After reading some fun posts from friends like Great Jen Creations last year about the Elf on a Shelf, I decided I wanted to try it for the kiddo and kidlet this year.

I saw the box at Target when I was in line on Black Friday, but was not going to get out and grab one. And, not knowing when I’d have the chance to get back up to Target, I asked Facebook if there were any stores in our small town that sold them. [Despite being a town of only 4,000, we have some of the best specialty stores] As luck would have it, one of my friends was going up to Target that afternoon (even to buy an Elf on the Shelf, as they were on sale that week) and was able to pick one up for me.

I introduced the Elf to the kiddos and read the accompanying book that came along with the doll. Then the kids picked out a name. They chose (drumroll…..) Elfie. So our kids aren’t terribly creative with names, it happens.

Elfie has been hiding every night and the kids try to find her (the kidlet claims Elfie is a girl, even though it’s technically a boy elf) every morning. Sometimes she’s easy to find – like hanging out on our dining room light fixture.

Sometimes she’s hiding in our fruit bowl, behind the bananas (encouraging more fruit intake, perhaps?).

The kids have fun finding Elfie every morning, and so far our elf hasn’t gotten into too much trouble, though I have some friends on Facebook who have extremely devious elves. This year we’re focusing on just remembering to move the elf every night. Maybe next year we’ll work on her antics.
