Star Spangled Banner

July 8, 2012

There’s a [fairly nice] cemetery in the middle of town, right on one of the major highways. It’s a beautiful place, with lots of old pine trees, a little creek and a lovely, large, open lawn.

Local volunteers put up a neat avenue of American flags during certain holidays. There are easily more than 50 flags that get set up, and it’s a lovely sight to see them waving against the backdrop of the bright green of the grass and trees.

The flags are up for almost an entire week right around the Fourth of July, and every time we’d drive by this year, the kidlet would announce excitedly, “the flags are  up!”

It takes a lot of time and hard work from the volunteers to put them up and take them down, but they are beautiful, and such a neat thing to have in our little town.
